Green gyro cables

Odyssey Gyro gen 1 cables in any other colour than black or white are an absolute nightmare to find. Modern coloured cables such as Odyssey gen 3 or those from Savage tend to have black bodies with coloured cables. Which in my mind stands out like a sore thumb on an old school build.

These are the Savage Gyro cables. Cheap compared to the price of an 80's original.

I'm lucky enough to have a set of green Odyssey Gen 1 cables but don't want to risk snapping them so I figured I'd have a go at painting the black bodies of my Savage cables neon green and keep the Odyssey cables "for show, not go".

First I taped off everything except the bodies and sanded down the black and sprayed white primer on them.

After the primer was dry two further coats, one neon green followed by clear lacquer.

An hour later, tape removed and the finished cable. First beside an unpainted green Savage gyro cable.

I'd heard but (not seen) that the Hatta MX-10 and a Gyro wasn't possible. However I tried the combination and everything seems fine :-)

More bits for the Haro

Some more bits and pieces for the Haro build arrived over the past week that i haven't got around to putting up.

First up, a nice "pair" of bubble font A'me Tri grips. I write "pair" in quotations as they aren't technically a pair, but two orphan grips I sourced from different people state side.

A gen 1 Odyssey Gyro lower... now if i could also find a matching upper cable I'd have everything I need for the build. But so far no luck sourcing an upper. :(

Next up is a nice hinged DC seat clamp... It's blue, but wanted green, although I'm not even sure if they were available in green. Anyway, not quite sure what to do with it. Keep it blue, have it powdered green of even polish it up. Powdering might be tricky because of the hinge, I'll see what SBD thinks... ;)

A finally for the front brake an 1986 stamped green Dia Compe brake cable. Managed to get a nice deal on four of these. So if until I find a green upper gyro cable, I might just run a normal rear brake line.

Installed the Gyro friendly GT Epoch headset.

Well now that I'll run the Gyro, there is a minor issue using the GT Epoch headset.... the shit don't fit!

The top cap on the standard GT Epoch sits over the upper bearing cup and, as such, is too wide for the Gyro bearings to pass over. So there is a gyro friendly top cap that sits flush with the upper bearing cup...

If only life was that simple... no.

GT in their 1980's wisdom also modified the upper bearing cone ever so slighty so too. Anyway to cut a long story short I finally managed to get a matching Gyro friendly upper cone.

Odyssey Gyro

I managed to get a Gyro friendly Epoch headset, so it looks like I'll be running the Gyro on the build.

Also all the parts are currently homeward bound, should be with me by the end of the week. :)
